报告简介:Modern information society has two paramount cornerstones, computation by CPU and communication by fiber. The former is achieved by manipulating electrical signals on a single chip, while the latter by manipulating optical signals as information carrier. Since the CPU is less and less scalable with the IC technology entering the post-Moore era, optical interconnects among computing nodes are playing critical roles in scaling performance of high performance computing systems. With the wide application of emerging information technologies including AI, IoT, 5G, etc, both computation and communication systems are facing a general bottleneck, scalability-sustainability contradiction. Continuous exponential data traffic growths in the optical interconnect and communication systems require a better capacity-power solution. Silicon electronics-photonics integration technology is believed as such a solution by enabling optical signal manipulating in scales down to inter- and intra-chip levels, as being done to electrical signals. This talk will introduce the ways of optical signal manipulation on chip level and applications. Silicon electronics-photonics integration is an important technology direction in IC fields of post Moore era and could provide a general solution for the general bottleneck encountered by computing and communication systems.

报告人简介:The speaker Guangwei Cong received the bachelor degree from Hunan University in 2000 and the master from Beijing University of Science&Technology in 2003. In 2006, he obtained the Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences. After that, he joined the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan and worked as the postdoc during 2006-2007 and the JSPS fellow during 2007-2009. In 2010, Dr. Cong became the permanent researcher of AIST and since 2012, he has been a senior researcher of the same institute. His research interests cover the areas of ultrafast all-optical switches, silicon photonics devices, monolithic electronics and photonics integration.
